As a teenager, she first entered the music world and was a winner of local contests at the age of 10 old and recording her first album at the age of 14 years old. The year 1985 saw her signed with Rounder Records and in 1987 released her debut solo album. The band invited her to join the group with whom she performs Alison Krauss and Union Station and released her first album as a group in the year 1989.
